In examining the known early manuscripts of Kulliyat of Sa’di—which have consistently served as the primary basis for historical and textual studies on Sa’di—we often encounter information that has been uncritically repeated for decades, while newer findings that could enrich our existing knowledge have been overlooked. Given the advancements in codicology and the expansion of data regarding various scribes, a re-evaluation of several well-known manuscripts of Sa’di’s works has become essential. This study presents these findings for the first time and discusses their implications for the future critical editions of Sa’di’s corpus. Specifically, this paper addresses: the newly acquired manuscript at the National Library of Iran (dated 716 AH) and its preliminary examination alongside another work by its scribe; the manuscript dated 720–721 AH, penned by Khalifa Bayzawi, and new information regarding another codex produced by this same scribe; the manuscript formerly owned by Loqman al-Dowleh Adham and its connection to fragments of another Kulliyat manuscript; and new data concerning ‘Aqaqiri,’ the scribe of the 766 AH manuscript held at the Astan Quds Razavi Library, with a precise determination of his attribution to Shiraz. Ultimately, these findings underscore the necessity of a rigorous re-examination of early sources, thereby providing a more reliable and nuanced foundation for all future critical editions of Kulliyat of Sa’di.
