About the Journal

The Persian Literature journal, a biannual publication of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities at the University of Tehran, is a scientific-research periodical in the field of literary studies, published twice a year. For many years, the Persian language and literature have endured numerous events across this land, emerging like tempered steel, standing firm, and holding its banner high. Despite multiple invasions from eastern and western peoples, the sweet Persian language not only remained rooted in this land but also, by borrowing from foreign languages, brought about a remarkable transformation in its own development and progress. Like a living entity, it continues to captivate and enthrall everyone to this day, leading to the establishment of numerous academic chairs internationally and the formation of many journals worldwide. As the University of Tehran, as one of the main bastions of the Persian language, strives to take a significant step in the development and expansion of Persian literature, one of the primary objectives of publishing this journal is to examine the developments, influence, expansion, and evolution of the Persian language in Iran and other Persian-speaking regions, with an emphasis on a research-based structure.

The current journal intends to publish articles in the field of Persian language and literature that take a significant step, with a scientific and research-oriented structure, towards the dynamism and further expansion of this domain. This is because the Persian language and literature are among the richest treasures of human civilizations. The antiquity of Iranian peoples, the richness of literary culture, the diversity of subcultures, and the geographical dispersion of ethnicities have all been reinforcing factors, enabling this language to preserve its cultural richness for many years to come. Therefore, to illustrate this important matter, the Persian Literature journal aims to publish numerous articles that have played and continue to play a significant role in its dynamism and flourishing in the following fields.

Journal History

Persian texts of submitted manuscripts are checked using similarity detection software such as IranDoc (https://tik.irandoc.ac.ir) and Samim Noor (www.samimnoor.ir). English abstracts are checked using the plagiarism detection software iThenticate (www.ithenticate.com) and Grammarly (www.grammarly.com). If plagiarism is detected in the Persian text or English abstract, the journal office will immediately reject the received manuscript and place the authors' names on a blacklist for five years. Therefore, all authors are advised to check the full text of their manuscript using plagiarism detection software before submission.

The journal office will promptly reject any received manuscript found to have committed plagiarism or self-plagiarism as soon as it is identified. During the article acceptance process, if it becomes clear that an article has not adhered to plagiarism, copyright, or publishing ethics rules, it will be rejected (before acceptance for publication). If published, it will be retracted due to plagiarism.

Retraction Policy

An article's validity may be retracted when its findings are deemed unreliable due to misconduct or other scientific errors, when it plagiarizes previously published work, or when it is found to violate publishing ethics guidelines. An article may be retracted when the integrity of the published work is significantly compromised or undermined due to errors in the conduct, analysis, or reporting of the research. Violation of publication or research ethics may also lead to the retraction of a study. The original article is marked as "retracted," but a PDF copy remains available to readers, and a retraction statement is bidirectionally linked to the original published article. Retraction statements usually include a statement of agreement or disagreement from the authors.

COPE

This publication, respecting ethics in publishing, adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows the executive bylaw of the Law on Prevention and Dealing with Fraud in Scientific Works.

Informed Consent of Research Participants

In the Journal of Persian Literature, all participants in studies and research on human subjects have the right to privacy, and researchers must not violate this without their informed consent. Identifying information of participants, such as names, surnames, etc., should not be published in written form, photographs, or genealogies unless this information is scientifically essential and the participants (or parents/guardians) have provided written informed consent for publication. Participants' consent forms must be written, recorded, and archived in the journal office, at the researchers' workplace, or both, in accordance with national regulations or local laws.

Adherence to Ethical Principles and Informed Consent

Adherence to medical ethics principles, anonymity, and maintaining patient confidentiality must be considered fundamental. In this regard, the code for the protection of human subjects, derived from the Helsinki Declaration, must be observed, and an ethics committee approval from the university should be attached to the submitted manuscript. In cases where studies involve humans, informed consent must be obtained from adult participants and from parents or legal guardians of minors involved in the study.

Data Sharing Policy

The Journal of Persian Literature employs a basic data sharing policy. The journal is committed to a more open research perspective that facilitates faster and more effective research discovery by enabling data reproducibility and verification, methodology, and reporting standards. The journal encourages authors to cite and share their research data, including but not limited to: raw data, processed data, software data, algorithms, protocols, methods, and materials. Authors are encouraged to share data supporting the results or analyses presented in their article or make it openly available, provided this does not violate the protection of human subjects or other valid privacy or security concerns.

The journal encourages authors to share data and other artifacts supporting the results in the article by archiving them in an appropriate public repository or data archive. Authors should include a data availability statement, containing the address or hyperlink to the repository they used, to be published alongside their article. This journal requests authors of original research articles and secondary articles to (1) deposit de-identified data related to the article in a repository, and (2) include a data availability statement in their article explaining how the data can be accessed.

The journal defines data as the digital materials underlying the results described in the article, including spreadsheets, text files, recorded interviews or transcripts, images, videos, data output from statistical software, computer codes, and scripts. Authors are expected to deposit the minimum dataset necessary to reproduce the results described in the article. Data can be deposited in any repository that makes data publicly available, including institutional repositories, public repositories (e.g., Figshare, Open Science Framework, Zenodo, Dryad, Harvard Dataverse, OpenICPSR) or subject-specific repositories. The data availability statement should be placed at the end of the main text, before the references. This statement should include (1) an indication of where the data are located; (2) a unique identifier, such as a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), accession number, or URL; and (3) any instructions for accessing the data, if applicable. During submission, you will be asked if there is a dataset associated with the manuscript. If your answer is yes, you will be asked to provide a pre-registered DOI, link, or other persistent identifiers related to the dataset(s). If you choose to provide a pre-registered DOI, please be prepared to share the reviewer URL associated with your data deposit if requested by reviewers. Where one or more datasets are associated with an article, these are not formally peer-reviewed as part of the journal's submission process. It is the author's responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the data. Any errors in the data are solely the responsibility of the dataset producer(s).

Note: As you are submitting your manuscript to this journal, where submissions undergo double-blind review, the main text file should not contain information that could identify the authors (e.g., author names, institutional affiliation addresses, conflicts of interest, and email address information). Since the data availability statement may reveal your identity, we recommend removing it from the anonymized version of your manuscript. In rare cases where de-identified data cannot be shared due to proprietary nature or participant privacy concerns, exceptions to this policy apply. Exceptions and data access restrictions are granted for reasons related to human subject privacy protection, biosafety issues, and/or respect for terms of use for data obtained under third-party licenses. Confidential data, e.g., data on human subjects or patients, must always be anonymized, or sharing permission must be obtained in advance. If in doubt, authors should seek advice from their institution/university ethics committee. Authors should have a data availability statement, including a link to the repository they used, so that this statement can be published alongside their article. Some examples are provided below.

Data Availability Statement Examples:

  1. The data associated with this article are available in the Open Science Framework.

  2. The data supporting the findings of this study are openly available in [repository name] at http://doi.org/[doi], reference number [reference number].

  3. The data supporting the findings of this study are openly available in [repository name] at [URL], reference number [reference number].

  4. The data supporting the findings of this study are available upon request.

Declaration on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process

In cases where authors use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, these technologies should only be used to improve readability and language. The use of AI technology must involve human supervision and control. Authors must carefully review and edit the results, as AI can generate seemingly credible outputs that can be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship entails responsibilities and tasks that are exclusively attributed to and performed by humans. Authors must disclose their use of AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by following the provided guidelines. A statement confirming this use will appear in the published article in the journal. It is essential to understand that authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the content of their article.

Guidelines for Disclosure of AI Use:

Authors should disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process in the final version of their manuscript by adding a statement at the end of their manuscript in the main file, before the reference list. This statement should be placed in a new section titled "Declaration on the Use of Generative AI and AI-assisted Technologies in the Writing Process."

Declaration: During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [Tool/Service Name] in order to [Reason]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication. This declaration does not apply to the use of assistive tools for checking grammar, spelling, references, etc. If there is nothing to disclose, no declaration needs to be added.
